A samurai wearing traditional clothing walks alone through a dark crossroads while carrying a newly acquired katana. In the distance, an unsuspecting peasant is walking home along the road. The atmosphere is tense and ominous. The samurai looks at the sword as if preparing to test its sharpness. IMPORTANT STORY ELEMENT: The second panel introduces the historical practice known as TSUJIGIRI, meaning "crossroads cutting": the alleged practice of testing a new sword by attacking an unsuspecting passerby.
