His damaged sleeve is patched with waterproof tape, with faint violet electrical sparks around the breach. Inside the bathtub is Casper, a fragile humanoid made of shimmering molten gold and glowing amber light, partially submerged beneath the mineral oil. She remains recognizably humanoid, but her physical structure is unstable, softened and incomplete, with parts of her body dissolving into the oil. **Both of her hands are completely gone; her forearms end in smooth golden stumps.** Kade gently presses his yellow-covered forehead directly against Casper's golden forehead beneath the oil. Their faces are extremely close. Neither can cry or speak; their grief is completely silent. The moment feels sacred, intimate and devastating: two transformed people silently mourning what Casper sacrificed to save Kade.
