In the 2005 film King Kong , directed by Peter Jackson, the woman who performs in the Broadway show as the stand-in for Ann Darrow is an unnamed character often referred to as the "Woman at Broadway Show". The Broadway Performance In the movie, after King Kong is captured and brought back to New York, Carl Denham organizes a Broadway spectacle titled "Kong, the Eighth Wonder of the World". The Stand-in Actress: Because the real Ann Darrow (played by Naomi Watts) refused to participate in the exploitation of Kong, Denham hired an anonymous chorus girl to take her place in the show. Fate in the Film: During the performance, Kong becomes enraged by the camera flashes and the realization that the woman on stage is not Ann. He breaks free from his chrome-steel chains, grabs the actress from the poles where she is bound, and throws her across the theater, presumably killing or severely injuring her. Behind the Scenes Julia Walshaw: The actress who portrayed this "Woman at Broadway Show" is Julia Walshaw. Dual Role: In addition to this brief on-screen role, Walshaw also served as a stand-in for Naomi Watts during the production of the film.
