Donvaria’s capital, Mistrock, sat on the bank of a river, surrounded by tall dark grey walls, with carved beasts and turrets with pointed roofs covered with faded dark blue tiles protruding from the battlements at intervals. The place had a strange, dour attractiveness. Far larger than any settlement Swen had ever seen before, it left him utterly awed. There was no mist in the air that day. But the rock was clear to see. In the city’s centre rose a tall, wide, rocky rise. The rock face carved, showing kings and battles. The Tapestry of Rock was famous throughout the world. It covered much of the rock face and depicted the entire history of Donvaria. It was still being added to; whenever history was made scaffolds appeared so that more carvings could be added. It was as impressive as Swen had imagined. A long, battlemented, stone brick slope lead from the low city to the high rock’s peak. More grey walls around the edge of the flat top, a castle rising behind them. The side of it facing the sea dominated by a huge circle of glass almost as tall as the castle itself. It was made of different stained glass panes divided by thin stone lines. It made a huge image that loomed over the city - an upstanding grey dragon with a claw clutching a sword vertically and a golden crown resting on its head. Voir plus
