A pirate looks through an open door at a night sea with harbor lights, a flying owl, and a woman's profile formed by a swarm of bees.

I have assigned myself a project to illustrate books that I enjoy in watercolor. For this book, my first, I envision a view through a door to the sea illuminated only by the light from the harbor. To the left of the door leaning against the wall in shadow is a dejected pirate identifiable only by the glint of his earing and boots. Over the sea a dark shadow of an owl flying towards us seen only by its eyes and glint on its talons. Fate is represented by a swarm of bees carrying her stories escaping the scene with the slight suggestion of a woman's profile in the densest leading edge.
