All of human history, all of human knowledge, is a fractal. I do not mean that it is "self-similar" or contains smaller versions of itself like how the public consciousness has come to understand fractals, but in more mathematical sense. Fractals are objects that exist with such an infinite "texture", that it allows them to transend the boundaries of interger valued dimensions and exist in the inbetween. Sirpinski's Triangle is probably the most commonly recognised fractal, and a good demonstration of this concept: you can construct the traingle by taking a full 2D triangle and removing its centre triangular 4th, then repeat this step on the remaining triangles, and again, on and on forever. Alternatively, you can construct the same triangle by drawing three 1D lines, drawing three more lines inside those to create 4 triangles, repeating this step for the three outter triangles, and so on and so forth. These are the same shape, they do not just look the same, they are literally identical. It is both a triangle that has has so much of it's area removed that it can no longer be wholly 2D, and a collection of lines that are so dense it can no longer be wholly 1D. The actual value of this shapes dimension (its Hausdorff dimension) is approximately 1.585, which in this case is calculated by taking advantage of the fact that Sirpinski's Triangle is self-contained.
