Pantheon Timeline 27â25 BCE â Original construction Marcus Agrippa builds the first Pantheon during the reign of Augustus. 80 CE â Fire damage The original building is destroyed in a major fire. 118â125 CE â Complete rebuilding by Hadrian Emperor Hadrian rebuilds the Pantheon into the iconic structure we see today, keeping Agrippaâs inscription. 202 CE â Repairs by Septimius Severus and Caracalla Restoration work is recorded on a new inscription inside. 609 CE â Converted to a Christian church Pope Boniface IV dedicates it as Santa Maria ad Martyres, ensuring its preservation. Renaissance (1500s) â Famous burials The artist Raphael and later Italian royalty are entombed inside. 1800sâ1900s â Preservation and national significance The Pantheon becomes a symbol of heritage for the newly unified Kingdom of Italy.
