🐀 Grassland Mole Rat Habitat: Dry grasslands Special reproduction: The female can store sperm after mating and only use it to fertilise her eggs when conditions are suitable. She produces a small number of babies when food and water are available. The babies are born underground, where they are protected from predators, heat and grassland fires. Why it suits the environment: Grasslands can have droughts and extreme heat, so delaying reproduction means the mole rat doesn't have babies when there isn't enough food to support them. Extra cool adaptation: The mole rats could live in underground colonies, with only a few breeding females while the others help care for the young. Voir plus
