I think for me, printed catalogue doesn't represent network at all, more like a lifetime of work of a single person who dedicated all to this single scholarly endeavour. Maybe I imagine that old-fashioned wooden clock with a cuckoo and a little forest that's very audibly ticking away, and the cuckoo shouts once an hour.
