Do You Really See Me is a single tape mannequin — a cast of my own body — cut into three three-dimensional fragments and suspended in space. Each fragment is a different version of the same self: the anxious self, tangled with thoughts that won't stop and words that can't come out; the comforted self, warm with cats and the specific things that make me feel safe; the joyful self, overflowing with my own drawings and the colours of making. From the front, at the right distance, the three fragments resolve into one complete person. From any other angle they are separate, unconnected pieces. Seeing someone whole requires finding the right position — and most people never do. The question on the front — Do you really see me — is asked before the viewer has begun to understand the work.
