The agricultural performance of these materials was further investigated through slurry acidification and alkalisation studies, nitrogen availability assessments, ecotoxicological evaluations and greenhouse gas emission trials. Orange peel residues proved particularly effective as natural slurry acidification agents, while yeast-derived materials exhibited high nitrogen availability following soil application. Overall, the results demonstrated that several agro-industrial residues can be safely valorised as agricultural inputs, provided that appropriate pre-treatment and application strategies are adopted for materials presenting higher salinity or phytotoxicity.
