A peryton is an elk-headed man-sized raptor. Their origins are assumed to be magical, as they are resistant to the blows of mundane weapons. Perytons rarely bother humanoids unless a mated pair is looking to reproduce—female perytons must consume a human heart to become fertile. The crueler and more wicked the person, the better the heart. Some groups use perytons to purge evil from their midst. Perytons will also snatch humanoids to feed their chicks.
