To make it short, the merger was a deliberate attempt for Paramount to get big and attempt to cash in on Warner Bros. Discovery. That unsurprisingly backfired. There are theories that the new mismanagement of CBS was so the government could give Paramount the A-OK to merge. Bribery at its finest. This was in part because the company Paramount chose to merge with was an indie movie studio with impossibly large assets. They had a choice between merging with Sony or Skydance. While Paramount merging with Sony would definitely not end well, it'd still fare much better than what happened instead. In a controversial move, Paramount's television division was greatly affected by the merger. Multiple international channels were discontinued regardless of their profitability and/or popularity, such as MTV in Europe, Game One in France, and Nickelodeon in Canada, Brazil, and Ukraine. In cases in which the channels weren't discontinued, they were replaced by other irrelevant feeds. For reasons unknown, Nickelodeon in Russia got the Southeast Asian feed instead of the Global feed. Paramount-Skydance also terminated their contract with Corus, which led to both YTV going severely downhill, and Nickelodeon Canada shutting down, on September 1, 2025.
