This one's about data, and what I look for to understand it deeper. 📊 Take product and trial downloads, one of the most watched numbers on any product website. A single download count, taken by itself, rarely tells the full story. It's one total number hiding several different trends underneath. Here's what I usually do: 1️⃣ Check the tracking definition "Downloads" can be defined differently depending on how the event is tracked, a download button click, a completed transfer, or a product install. Before trusting a number, it's worth confirming what event is actually being counted. 2️⃣ Break it into segments Total downloads can stay the same overall while one product is gaining downloads and another is losing them. Splitting the number by product, region, channel, or user segment usually shows which one it actually is. 3️⃣ Look at the trend, not just the current number A metric can sit "within normal range" for weeks while slowly moving in the wrong direction. One snapshot won't show that. A few weeks side by side usually will. 4️⃣ Widen the window before calling it a trend What looks like a trend over a few weeks can still be noise or a seasonal pattern.
