In May 2016, Paramount announced a partnership with the then-newly established UK studio Locksmith Animation to co-develop and co-produce three films that would be released under the Paramount Animation umbrella, with the first film's release being set for 2020. Less than a year later, Paramount abandoned the deal due to Paramount's CEO, Brad Grey, being replaced by Jim Gianopulos. This forced Locksmith to migrate to 20th Century Fox for the release of its debut film Ron's Gone Wrong in 2021 before signing a new deal with Warner Bros.
