As Link neared the mountains, he began to keep an eye out for Octoroks. An Octorok looked much like an octopus, and lived in various types of environments. Those that lived in the mountains were called Rock Octoroks. They spit rocks at their prey and they slept under rocks, and yes, that is where the “rok” part of their name came from. They believed that sleeping beneath the rocks provided them with camouflage to protect them as they slumbered. But to be honest, the rocks didn’t do a very good job. Which is why Link was now able to locate an Octorok so easily. He crept up behind some boulders near where the Octorok was sleeping, then peered over the edge. It turned out that the beast was perched just at the top of a precarious precipice. If Link was going to get himself anywhere near the Octorok, he would have to hug the boulder closely and carefully shift across its surface until he was safe on the other side. As he proceeded with this plan, he did his best not to make too much noise, lest he roust the beast from his rest. Soon, he had succeeded in making it around the edge. He was so proud of himself that he leapt down behind the Octorok without watching where he was landing, and his foot landed hard on a frog. The frog let out a loud croak and the Octorok immediately sprung up out of its slumber. A deep hum emanated from the beast’s belly as it bounced in place and turned in Link’s direction.
