Collage Project: The object of this assignment is to create an original composition using collage techniques. Collage is a French word that means “to glue”, so you may use any 2-dimensional material to complete your image that you wish – wrapping paper, ribbon, thread, old greeting cards, magazines, original photographs, photocopies, etc. I will challenge you to not be too literal, avoid clichés, and think out of the box. Avoid using words, overly sentimental images, or ideas that look too “scrapbook”. Gather more supplies (paper, ribbon, etc) than you think you will need as even small collages can use a large amount of material. Finished work will be on your 14x16” support as mentioned in your syllabus. This may consist of drawing paper, sketchbook paper, cardstock, cardboard, particle board or any other suitable support of your choosing. You may use craft glue such as Elmer’s, glue stick, or other acid-free glue to affix your elements to the support. Be sure to carefully adhere the edges of all collage elements to your chosen support. You are also encouraged to experiment by adding in drawing, painting, stamping, sewing, or other elements to your collage as you wish – be as creative as you like.
