These people were George and Mildred McCoy who later had Elijah McCoy, an African-Canadian boy who would grow up to be a man that would forever change the way steam engines were made. When he was 3, him and his family moved to Michigan where racial prejudice was strong. At 15, he left for Scotland where he apprenticed for 5 years as a mechanical engineer. Elijah learned about complex mechanics of steam engines and machinery. When he came back from Scotland, he found he was only able to find a job at the Michigan Central Railroad as a fireman and oiler, a position he was extremely overqualified for Mehr sehen
