Shakkyō (Stone Bridge) Story 1. Monk Jakushō Meets Woodcutter Boy at Stone Bridge Monk Jakushō traveling around the Buddhism sites in China arrives at the stone bridge in Mount Shōryōzen. A woodcutter boy passes by. Monk Jakushō I am Jakushō (pronaunce Jakujō), who was once called Ōe no Sadamoto before I renounced the world. I came to India from China and continued visiting and worshipping at Buddhism sites. In China I visited and prayed at many places, starting from Mount Iōzan (in present Zhejiang Province). I have just arrived at Mount Shōryōzen (in the present Shanxi Province). This seems to be the famous stone bridge. I shall wait for someone and ask them to tell me the story associated with this bridge and then cross it. Woodcutter Boy Breeze sweeping through pine trees brings flowers on top of the firewood I shoulder. It feels like carrying snow. How tasteful this mountain path is. The sun sets while I walk on a mountain path. I hear the singing of lumberjacks and the flute of a herder. All humans bear burdens of various karma and go on through the world. We must be bothered by events occurring and passing in front of our eyes and end our days with our hearts taken by them. Mehr sehen
