Directions You’ll practice using line, shape, and space on purpose by making quick thumbnail sketches. Then you’ll select and annotate your strongest example(s). Pick your path: Drawing, Painting, or Digital. See lesson task page for the list. Make 5 or more thumbnails (each ¼ page or 4” by 5”) using black only (pen/marker/pencil or one-color paint/ink). Keep them abstract and use lines and simple shapes only. Label each with a 2–3-word focus. In separate boxes, explore: (1) calm vs energetic line families; (2) thick/thin line-weight contrast; (3) overlap & scale to suggest near/far space; (4) cropping shapes off the edge; (5) negative space as the main shape. Choose your best 1–2 thumbnails and annotate directly on them to show where your line/space decisions occur. (Label each with a 2–3 word focus (e.g., “thick/thin,” “overlap”).) Photograph the selected 1–2 and the full 4–6 set for your process log (even light; edges in frame). If you need help with how to photograph your artwork and submit it, see How to photograph and submit artwork. Mehr sehen
