On one side, draw a French soldier (with a French flag on his uniform) confidently pulling Vietnam toward him, symbolizing colonial expansion. On the other side, draw a Chinese dragon representing Qing China, also pulling but looking weakened or tired to show its declining power during the Sino-French War. Vietnam could look distressed or caught in the middle to show loss of independence. You could add a caption like, “Fighting for control—But not for Vietnam.” This clearly shows the argument that powerful nations were competing over Vietnam without considering its sovereignty.
