A ceremonial altar at sunset in a desert with saguaro cacti. Blue corn, a stone, and a sheet of paper rest on a surface in front of a chiminea with a burning fire.

A small intimate ceremonial altar at sunset, photographed low and close to the ground. A large iron cage-built chiminea sits at the far end, its arched mouth facing the viewer, a live fire glowing amber and oxblood-red in its belly, thin smoke drawing up through the flue. The dying sun sinks low behind the chiminea, sky burning orange fading to deep blue-violet, the fire and the last daylight the only light sources. On the earth, a tight linear altar runs from the foreground toward the chiminea mouth: nearest the flame, a single perfect hand of cured tobacco leaf, deep golden-brown and glossy, pointing into the fire, beside a dried corn husk rolled to wrap it; at the center, a single sheet of handwritten paper weighted with a stone; in the near foreground closest to the viewer, two whole ears of deep indigo-blue corn and a small scattered handful of blue kernels. Warm amber and gold tones cluster at the fire; the cool blue corn glows against the dark near the viewer. Dry desert earth, a few Trichocereus cactus silhouettes at the edges, folk-horror stillness, sacred and quiet. Rich chiaroscuro, firelit, cinematic, painterly realism, shallow depth of field.
