Pencil drawing illustrating one-point perspective with various geometric shapes receding towards a vanishing point.

Begin with your illustration board or drawing paper positioned in landscape format (so the wider side is left/right). Create a border one inch in from the edge of the paper. The border should be “floating” which means that no lines should extend to the edges of the paper. The border should be straight, crisp, and clean. Draw a horizon line lightly across the paper. The position of the horizon line is entirely up to you, but it will be easier for you to place this line somewhere near the center. A light marking is all you need as you want to erase the horizon line before you turn in your project. Establish a vanishing point on the horizon line. This, again, is an arbitrary location; however, it will be easier for you to place this point somewhere near the center of the paper. You should only have one vanishing point, and all shapes merge on that one point, no exceptions! Using the straight edge begin to draw a variety of geometric shapes on the paper (rectangles, triangles, square, diamonds, hexagons, etc). Make sure to vary the size. Draw (orthogonal) lines from corners of the shapes to the vanishing point. From an arbitrary position along the orthogonal lines you are going to create the exact same shape. This is the end of the three-dimensional form. It is essential that this smaller shape must be exactly parallel the original shape you created. Erase the lines that extend between the newly established second shape and the vanishing point. Now the form is floating in space. Mehr sehen
