Pantheon Timeline 27–25 BCE — Original construction Marcus Agrippa builds the first Pantheon during the reign of Augustus. 80 CE — Fire damage The original building is destroyed in a major fire. 118–125 CE — Complete rebuilding by Hadrian Emperor Hadrian rebuilds the Pantheon into the iconic structure we see today, keeping Agrippa’s inscription. 202 CE — Repairs by Septimius Severus and Caracalla Restoration work is recorded on a new inscription inside. 609 CE — Converted to a Christian church Pope Boniface IV dedicates it as Santa Maria ad Martyres, ensuring its preservation. Renaissance (1500s) — Famous burials The artist Raphael and later Italian royalty are entombed inside. 1800s–1900s — Preservation and national significance The Pantheon becomes a symbol of heritage for the newly unified Kingdom of Italy.
