Mexia Supermarket was a grocery store in Fort Worth, Texas, United States, that was active during the later part of the 1990s. The shop was abandoned between July and August 1999, and the owners, Advance Investment Corp., declared bankruptcy on September 28 or 29, 1999. The electricity was cut some time after, and the food inside was left to rot for a few months. The cleanup was a costly and biohazardous operation. Background Mexia Supermarket was established by Advance Investment Corp. and owned by Dung Chang & Kung Song after it obtained a 15-year $975,000 loan from Comerica Bank-Texas.[1] The chosen site for the shop was 3900 Hemphill St., a 36,000-foot rectangular building previously operated by Danals Food Store, a business headquartered in Dallas, Texas.[1][2][3] The shop opened some time between 1997 and October 5, 1998, the shop's first taxable date for sales tax.[2] Due to poor profits and a debt of approximately $1.14 million owed to various creditors, the shop closed, and the owners began to default on their loan payments as early as June 1999.[1] The sources disagree on the closing date. The Associated Press stated that the shop closed in July of that year,[4] while the local Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported the shop closed at the end of August.[1] Nearby residents called the city as early as September 15, 1999, to inform them of the store's closure. The store's health permit was cancelled and removed from the list of active food businesses.[3] Advance Mehr sehen
