Niels Jensen Kjær Born 1720 - 1797 he is mentioned in the church register as a farmer. He married Karen Pedersdatter in Sahl Church. Together they had 3 children: daughter Maren in 1747, daughter Kiersten in 1752 and son Jens in 1753. At the time when Niels and Karen lived, Denmark was a distinctly peasant society. Most people were either farmers or farmers. A farmer like Niels Kjær typically did not own much land himself, but used a small piece of land, often owned by a larger farmer or landowner. He often had to supplement his income as a day laborer or with other work in the area. Life in Sahl parish in the mid-18th century was characterized by hard work, faith and attachment to both the church and the local community. Sahl Church, which still stands today, was the center of both religious and social events, and both Niels and Karen were commemorated there when they passed away. Their children grew up in a time of change in agriculture. Towards the end of the 18th century, the great agricultural reforms began, when the feudal system was gradually abolished, and many farmers were given the opportunity to own their own land. The Kjær family thus lived in a time of transition between the old feudal farming society and a new era of greater freedom for the rural population. Send feedback Mehr sehen
