Gooriala the rainbow serpent was travelling around our Nation, his heavy body sinking into the earth helping to make our waterways. Gooriala slithered swiftly towards Lismore, his ginormous body helping to create the Wilson River. Gooriala the Rainbow serpent passed through Lismore and headed out to the places of beautiful flowers and birds know as Nimbin. Goorialla the Rainbow serpent made his way to Nimbin Rocks, he began to disturb the beautiful birds. The beautiful birds screeched so loud that they woke up the Cleverman named Nimbinj. Nimbinj awoke angrily to see Gooriala bothering the beautiful birds. Nimbinj the cleverman called for the Protector of the Buindjalung nation known as Dirrawong, the giant Ngumahl to send Gooriala away! And so the chase began. Dirrawong came down from the mountains and chased Gooriala to Lismore and through to Woodburn. As they reached Woodburn dirrawong snapped and bit Gooriala’s tail. Gooriala the Rainbow serpent became angered with Dirrawong hew reared up turned around and bit Dirrawong on his head. This stunned Dirrawong, he was bleeding everywhere. Dirrawong stunned, stop to collect some bush medicine to heal his wounds. Once he was feeling better he went back to his chase.
