The Hen and the Rooster Hen and Rooster were known as the best cooks on the farm but Hen said, “There can only be one best” and so they held a cooking contest for who could cook the most delicious meal. Hen headed to the garden and picked the first ears of corn she could see. Later in the kitchen she was making a cake when she used salt instead of sugar and tomatoes instead of apples! Meanwhile, Rooster was planning on making a single lemon cake. She bought only the biggest and ripest yellow lemons she could find. In her kitchen she carefully measured the amounts of sugar, water, and lemons. She paid close attention to the look of the cake in the oven. Finally, it was time Hen bought out many dishes, some good but others bland and undercooked. While Rooster bought out a single spongey yellow lemon cake, perfectly baked.
