A colorful diagram illustrating the four components of Nonviolent Communication (NVC): Observation, Feeling, Need, and Request.

The Four Components of NVC Observation — Stating what you observe without mixing in evaluation or judgment. The goal is to describe concrete actions as if recorded by a camera, separate from interpretation. Feeling — Identifying and expressing emotions that arise from the observation, not thoughts disguised as feelings (e.g., "I feel ignored" is actually an interpretation; "I feel sad" is a feeling). Need — Recognizing the universal human need underlying the feeling. NVC teaches that feelings stem from whether our needs are met or unmet, not from others' actions directly. Request — Making clear, positive, actionable requests rather than vague demands. A request leaves room for the other person to say no without punishment. Mehr sehen
