An orange crab on the sandy ocean floor with sunlight filtering through the water.

Habitat: Deep Sea Diet: Algae, zooplankton Ancestor: Japanese spider crab The excavator spider crab lives far down on the ocean floor. It derives its name from its claws, with each side of the claw being spade-like, as well as how it feeds. The excavator spider crab uses its claws like excavators to dig up and eat sand, along with water. They then manipulate around the sand to pull out food, then the waste is spat out. Excavator crabs are usually peaceful creatures despite their size. Mehr sehen
